Colombia’s President Donates Nobel Peace Prize Money To Victims Of Conflict

The winner of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, and president of Columbia, President Juan Manuel Santos has announced that the $925,000 prize money which he received as winner will be donated to the victims of the conflict in Columbia.

President Santos received the award for reaching a peace agreement with Farc rebels in order to end a conflict that has seen 260,000 people killed and more than six million internally displaced.

“Last night, I met with my family and we have decided to donate those eight million Swedish krona ($925,000) to the victims,”he was quoted as saying.

The peace agreement had since been rejected by 50.2% of Columbian voters in an October 2nd referendum.
