The Church And Modern Prevailing Culture

Now this is very sensitive. But I have to make it the aim of my post today.

Why has the church not been as impactful as it should? We have the men and the resources. But our impact has been modest.

This is so because the church is failing to understand the importance of influencing or taking over a prevailing culture. And the prevailing culture now is entertainment!

Alder State of the Church Report released in 2016 rated entertainers(81.7%) as being more relevant to the youths than pastors (78.6%)!

Instead of church leaders asking, ‘How could they?’, and with the youths being the highest demography in the church, they should be asking, ‘How do we leverage on this?’

Fashion, movies, music and the media are the prevailing dictators of culture. The church needs to start buying into these. Discipled, scripture-taught and gifted actors, comedians, fashion designers, artistes, movie and music video directors should be released into the entertainment industry to champion gospel-laced contents in entertainment.

I also hope universities like Covenant, Babcock, Mcpherson, Crawford, Redeemer’s, etc, have courses in these fields because the gospel paradigm has shifted.

The church needs men like the children of Issachar, “…who understood the times…”
