Chinedu Obasi About To Set Goalscoring Record In Sweden

Nigeria international, Chinedu Obasi, is set to make history as the first Nigerian player to score in five successive matches in the Swedish Allsvenskan.

The 30 – year old took his tally to six goals from seven games when he found the back of the net in AIK’s 2-0 win over Alhaji Gero’s östersunds FK in the Swedish top flight on Sunday.

AIK increased their lead when Obasi unleashed a low shot from just outside the penalty box, which took a wicked bounce before going past a surprised goalkeeper Hampus Nilsson.

Having scored in four consecutive matches, against Djurgården, Elfsborg, Norrköping and östersunds FK , Obasi has now equaled the feat achieved by former Malmo hero Eddie Ofere in 2009.

Should the 30-year-old who was club less for one year, add to his tally in AIK’s next match against IFK Göteborg, he will become the first Nigerian player to score in five successive games in the league.

However, the ex-Schalke 04 attacker isn’t the most deadly Nigerian in the Swedish top flight. His former teammate at youth level, John Owoeri, with 11 goals for BK Hacken is.

The 30-year-old is presently the third top scorer in the Swedish League.
