Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai Will Be Investigated Over False Asset Declaration-Presidency

By Ikenga Chronicles December 12, 2016

The Presidency through the Code of Conduct, Bureau(CCB)on Sunday, December 11 disclosed that the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Burutai must be invited for questioning over allegation of false declaration of assets.

Recall that false asset declaration was levied against Buratai after evidence emerged that he owned property in Dubai.

This came as Civil Society Groups called on the CCB to investigate and prosecute Buratai for false asset declaration because the evidence of payments of the Dubai property was consummated between July 24 and August 17, 2016.

In its response to the group, the CCB gave its reasons for not investigating Buratai’s asset declaration early enough.

“Please be informed that General Buratai’s asset would have been verified and that he was equally communicated on this.”

The bureau said the verification could not continue because Buratai “was coordinating the fight against Boko Haram in the North East as at that particular period…”

“Now that the war on insurgency has been considerably contained, the military officers that were earlier scheduled, including General Buratai himself, would, shortly, be invited for the exercise” it said.

‘’Should the CCB find  Buratai culpable of false asset declaration, it could prosecute him before the Code of Conduct Tribunal.’’
