Calls For Gov Ishaku’s Impeachment Are Mere Distractions- Minority leader

–Callistus Agwaza, Jaling

Hon. Imam Imam, the former Minority of the Taraba state House of Assembly has described calls for the impeachment of the state Governor Darius Ishaku as mere distraction aimed at heating the polity.

Imam, who disclosed to in an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Jalingo on Thursday called on the opposition to accept defeat in good faith and rally round the governor to move the state forward.

The former minority leader in the state House of Assembly said that “what Taraba state needs right now is for all the people to come together, rally round the governor so as to move the state forward. We are currently facing a barge of challenges, bordering on insecurity, lack of funds and a whole lot of others and you can attest to the fact that the governor is doing everything to address these challenges.

” Our education sector has improved drastically and so is the health sector. Look at the mega water project going on in the state. These are all visible development. At this point, I think it is very important that we all put our differences aside and work for the good of Taraba, rather than heating up the polity unnecessarily”.

He further called on the governor to give youths a chance to participate more actively in his government as the “youths have a lot of energy and innovative ideas that they will bring to bear in this government and move the state to an enviable height”.

Our correspondent recall that the Nigerian Envoy to the republic of Trinidad and Tobago Alh Hassan Ardo recently called on the Taraba state House of Assembly to urgently commence the process of impeaching the state governor Darius Ishaku for gross violation of the constitution, fraudulent misappropriation of state funds and total incompetence.

The envoy who disclosed this during an interactive session with journalists in Jalingo said that it would amount to great misrepresentation if the House continues to look the other way when the obvious impeachable offences on the part of the governor continue unabated.

Ardo said that the decision of the state governor to continue to use Caretaker Chairmen for the administration of local governments in the state and non compliance with the NFIU directive, the use of  family members to syphon state’s funds through dubious contracts, and other glaring abuse  of office are enough reasons for the legislative arm to step up its checks and balances.
