Cabinet Shake Up: Oshiomhole Storms Aso Rock

By Ikenga Chronicles January 4, 2017

As Nigerians await the cabinet reshuffle by President Muhammadu Buhari, the immediate past governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole on Tuesday, January 3 visited the President at the presidential Villa Abuja.

Political analyst said that Oshiomhole’s visit has confirmed the report that he has been given a slot in the new ministerial list or a board appointment.

The presidency had late last year informed the Senate of its intention to carry out a cabinet shake-up that may affect no fewer than 10 ministers in the federal cabinet early this year.

Significantly,   Buhari had, three days to Oshiomhole leaving office, while commissioning some projects executed by the former Edo State governor, praised Oshiomhole’s achievements and called on the All Progressives Congress(APC) to engage him at the national level for further service delivery.

Buhari had said then, “It will be a pity to waste his energy by him retiring. I hope there will be a higher assignment for him to do more for the nation. I congratulate the governor for his hard work; Oshiomhole is a hard working governor. We will need his services in Abuja.”

“You have served two terms and you are about to leave. You deserve a place in history. I hope the APC will look for a place for you because your service for the country is far from over.”

However, Oshiomhole who met behind closed doors with the president on Tuesday at Aso Villa, when asked by State House correspondents if his visit was possibly for an appointment as a Minister, said he was at the villa to wish the president happy birthday and nothing more.

Speaking further on his mission to the Villa, Oshiomhole said that he was also at the nation’s seat of power to formally appreciate the President for coming three days to his departure to commission some signature projects executed by his administration.

Meanwhile, Oshiomhole’s unexpected visit to Aso Rock came at a time when the Federal Government is to release the names of board members of federal agencies, boards and ministries.

This follows the fine-tuning of the lists of the nominees by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, on the instruction of Buhari to ensure lasting peace.

It was learned last night that following the intervention of Buhari, the list of nominees already sent in by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation(OSGF) has been adjusted to take care of all interest groups.

A competent source confirmed last night that the intervention of the President followed complaints by governors and other party big-wigs that they were not consulted by the OSGF before the list of board chairmen and members was compiled.
