Buhari to Meet with Pan-Niger Delta Group in Abuja

President Muhammadu Buhari is set to meet with the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PNDF) in Abuja with the hope of finding a lasting solution to the continued bombing of oil installations in the region.

The meeting, scheduled for Saturday October 29, was conveyed through Chief Edwin Clark.

It will be recalled that Clark was appointed by the Niger Delta Avengers to lead the negotiation team to meet the federal government following the decision of the militants to agree to a ceasefire.

The co-chairmen of the Central Working Committee of PNDF are the the former governor of Akwa Ibom state, Obong Victor Attah and former military governor of the defunct Rivers state, His Royal Majesty, King Alfred Diette-Spiff.

Mr. Ledum Mitee, the former president of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni who is the secretary of PNDF confirmed that he was aware of the planned meeting with President Buhari although it was no clear if it was Dr Ibe Kachikwu, the Minister of State for petroleum who conveyed the message to them. A source said: “It could be him because he has been working behind the scene with the leaders to ensure that the Niger Delta quagmire is resolved.”

Members of the working committee expected to meet the president are former Provost Marshal of the Nigerian Army, Brig. General Don Idada Ikponmwen (rtd); former special adviser to the President on Niger Delta, Chief Timi Alaibe; Professor G.G. Darah; Professor Lucky Akaruese; Nella Ewan, SAN; Dr. Alfred Mulade. Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga, Engr. Don Ben; T.K. Ogoriba; Ken Robinson; former Permanent Secretary, Amb. Godknows Igali; Tony Uranta; Amb Nkoyo Toyo; former national president of Ijaw Youth Council.
