BREAKING NEWS:  Save Paul Arisa; Abia State Government Lied!

–Nnaemeka Oruh

Ikenga Chronicles can exclusively report that the news making the rounds that the Abia State government has taken over Paul Arisa’s medical care is false. A few days ago, news with attached pictures broke that the Abia State government had sent  Dr. Mike Enyinnaya a Medical Consultant, and the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Mr. Ubani Newman Ubani, to liaise with Paul Arisa, and provide all the necessary support needed to save the young man’s life. Ikenga Chronicles called, to confirm this information, but was informed by Faith Ibe (Paul’s friend) that the news is not entirely true. According to him, representatives of the Abia State government came to see Paul before all the media publicity, and were told that 1.6Million Naira would be needed to treat Paul at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. The government then promised to support with 1million naira, and after a while, only made available 400,000 naira. With time ticking, and Paul’s condition deteriorating, Paul and his friends decided to seek the help of the public, hence the public appeal for help.

Unfortunately, in a bid for cheap publicity, the Abia State Government has suddenly gone public, stating that it has taken over the issue, thus hindering those who were willing to help from helping. According to a cousin of Paul’s;

“Please that stuff was just false, the Abia State governor’s SSA used that for his personal publicity. The SSA only promised to give 1million on behalf of his boss who’s the governor but only gave 400k and since then hasn’t donated anything again. I’m in Aba now as we speak and with him, we don’t even know[where] the publicity emanated from, they are just using the young man’s health to gain popularity and make the media”

Some of Paul’s friends told our correspondent that the Abia State government has even expressed anger at the media attention given to the case which has made it look like the government did not care for its citizen. The government’s anger has made Paul’s family and friends to become scared of further media attention.

When asked why he was going ahead to talk to Ikenga Chronicles, despite the government’s displeasure, a friend of Paul’s exclaimed;

“Bullshit! If going to the media will sensitize them to be proactive and save Paul’s life then do what you have to do! Time is of an essence here. Every day that passes by has harmful implications on Paul’s life. Paul is dying by the day. Cancer waits for no one”

We gathered that about £10,000 has so far been raised, and efforts are being made to find a way to take Paul to a hospital in either of India or the USA, for proper attention.

Ikenga Chronicles therefore appeals to well-meaning Nigerians to still rally round Paul and his friends, and help him take the final step to getting his health back.
