Atiku Abubakar: A Detribalized Nigerian

—Ikenna Asomba,

Nigerians would rather massively vote for Atiku Abubakar, a detribalized Nigerian, than a nepotic, ethnic, and religious chauvinist.

Did you know that dating back 1999-2007, when Atiku Abubakar held sway as Nigeria’s Vice President under the leadership of his boss, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, his boss appointed him (Atiku), the head of his Economic Team?

As a detribalised Nigerian, Atiku shopped for competent Nigerians across the six geo-political zones of the country, and in the diaspora to serve in the Obasanjo/Atiku administration.

In 1999, Nigeria was a pariah state, with a highfalutin domestic and international debt profile. But with the great works spear-headed by Atiku, whom Obasanjo reposed confidence in, the country was out of the debt woods.

Atiku also spear-headed the liberalization of the country’s telecommunications market. As at 1999, there were barely 1 million mobile lines in Nigeria. But today, it has ballooned to over 100million. Thanks to Atiku and his boss, Obasanjo.

As at 2001, when former U.S. President Bill Clinton visited Nigeria, many a Nigerian, were asking themselves: “When am I going to use a mobile phone? The rest they say is history, today.

That Atiku is a detribalised Nigerian, bridge builder and an elder statesman is without any iota of doubt.

This same Atiku discovered the Professor Charles Soludos of this world, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iwealas, Mallam Nasir El-rufais, Franklin Nwekes, Ndi Okereke Onyiukes, name them.

Infact, the snippet below tells you more on who Atiku really is!

Little wonder, the FIVE Generals and owners of Nigeria PLC- Theophilus Danjuma; Olusegun Obasanjo; Ibrahim Badamosi Babaginda; Abdulsalam Abubakar and Mohammed Inuwa Wushishi, and the sixth powerful septugenarian, General Aliyu Gusau, are standing on the same page, this time, with good-spirited Nigerians, that Nigeria, at this critical moment in our chequered history, needs a DETRIBALISED NIGERIAN, BRIDGE BUILDER and ELDER STATESMAN like Atiku Abubakar to heal the nation of its acidic tensions (2015-2019).
