APC Primaries Were Characterised By Impunity–APC Chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress(APC) and former Presidential aspirant for the 2019 Presidential elections under the party, Dr. SKC Ogbonnia has stated that the primaries conducted by the party was characterised by impunity and lack of transparency.

Dr. Ogbonnia made this allegation in a congratulatory message which he sent to President Muhammadu Buhari, following Buhari’s emergence as the party’s candidate in next year’s Presidential election.

While congratulating Buhari, Ogbonnia called on the President to ensure that his campaign for next year’s election deviates from what happened during the primaries.

According to him;

“I want President Buhari to win. Therefore, this congratulatory message must be grounded in the truth. Recognizing that the APC remains a party for progressive change, I charge Mr. President to ensure that the nature of his campaign for re-election shows a decisive change from the APC primaries. By design or default, probably the later, the primaries appeared to be replete with norms alien to the party’s cardinal principles, including prohibitive nomination fees, arbitrary exclusion of qualified aspirants, brazen lack of level playing ground, lack of transparency, crass impunity and stark arrogance on part of the party leadership.”

Recall that even the wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari made similar allegations, while several state chapters of the party are currently embroiled in acrimony following the primaries.
