Alex Iwobi humbled by love from ‘crazy’ Arsenal fans

Alex Iwobi has expressed delight over the love he has enjoyed from the Emirates since breaking into the Arsenal first team last year.

The 20-year-old is undoubtedly the fastest rising youngster in the Premier League due to his peculiar attacking style which certainly has caught the attention of the fans.

His exploits on the pitch have forced his call-up to the Nigerian national team where he gave the country World Cup hope  with a goal against Zambia at the weekend.

However, the forward who has notched three assists in five appearances this season, is overwhelmed by the support and love he receives from supporters of the club.

“Especially after a game, I’m trying to go home and I see fans almost breaking my car just to grab a picture,” he said. “It’s just crazy.”

“There’s been a lot of crazy things. The last home game we played, I was driving for 15 minutes and there was one fan following me and I was getting a bit scared because I was close to my destination. I was thinking: ‘Ah, I’m going to have to make a detour just to get to the destination before he finds out where I’m going.’ That was a bit mad.”

But all of these isn’t getting into the head of the youngster who opened his goal scoring account with the Super Eagles against Zambia on Sunday in a FIFA World Cup qualifier.

“I’m not really fazed by all that,” he added. “I’ve set my targets and goals, and I just have to try and prove to everyone that I’m good enough to play in the team.”

The Nigerian is expected to resume action on Saturday when the Gunners host Swansea.
