Abuja FA Praises NWFL And Capital City Doves

The Abuja Football Association has showered praises on the Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL board and most importantly, Capital City Doves for their feats in the just concluded women league season.

Speaking on behalf of the FA, Acting Secretary, Usman Haruna Ilerika, said “the efforts put in place by relevant bodies to ensure the league ended well is
appreciated and commendable.”

In his general assessment, he said “The standard of our league no doubt has been very encouraging, the girls were playing well. It’s just that the league need a very viable sponsor. Without sponsorship, nothing can work.”

“If you have little resources at the disposal of female football in Nigeria, we
would move mountain. We have the raw material, we have the talents, we have whatever we want to talk about in terms of the game, people are willing, and we are not begging people to play because they have seen the advantages.”

“No matter how the body is willing, if what is supposed to move the psychological willingness is not available, nothing will happen.”

Ilerika however, applauded Capital City Doves technical crew and players who despite lack of financial motivation, put in their best to attain the feats they have been able to achieve.

“Capital City Doves players to me have done marvellously well. They may not be
winning, it’s not all about the winning now because they cannot do more than what they have. For you to have quality players, you need quality money.”

“There has been no complain about the technicality of any of the coaches. They have been working with the team for the past two years, we have not had any cause to hear anything that is unnecessarily becoming or unbecoming of them.”

“It is difficult for us to say the coaches have not done well. They have been able
to put their technical input into the team even though we are not getting the
desired result we want, but before we can get the desired result we want, we must be talking about the quality of players in the team and what brings quality players is the finances.”

Meanwhile, Ilerika emphasized on the need for sponsorship for the women league.

“With an average sponsor, female football is very interesting. If you go to
watch them at any venue, you will appreciate them more than even the male teams because what is not expected of them, you will see it.”
