2019 Presidency Will Be A Contest Between Two Northern Candidates–Lamido

Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, yesterday, opened his first presidential campaign office in Birnin Kudu in Jigawa state.

Thousands of Lamido’s supporters besieged the office which was adorned with insignias of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).

Speaking at the occasion shortly after he received over 5000 people who defected to PDP from the APC, Lamido said he was optimistic of winning the election next year.

Lamido noted that he had all it takes to be President of Nigeria, saying like President Muhammadu Buhari, he too was at different times a Minister and a Governor.

He added that apart from what he called “sterling record of achievements” which was always there to speak for him as a Governor and minister, he was someone with historic political background that spanned over 40 years.

He said the recent letter written by a former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, did not only aid in promoting freedom of speech, but that it had also contributed in shaping the country’s democracy.

“2019 presidential election is undoubtedly going to be between two northern candidates who were both governors and ministers at a time. But the difference is that Buhari was a Minister of Petroleum that was not known; but when I was the Minister of Foreign Affairs, I was known all over the world, and my achievements as a former governor are also there to speak for me,” he said.
