2 Top Civil Servants In Edo State Arrested In Connection With N1.5b Fraud

By Ikenga Chronicles November 23, 2016

The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board, Stephen Alao and the Director of Finance, Adams Osabuohien, are currently cooling their feet at the detention facility of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) for misappropriating at least N1.5 billion.

Their arrest and subsequent transfer to Ibadan Zonal Office of the anti-graft agency was based on a petition accusing both men of allegedly inflating contract, approval of bogus Duty Tour Allowance, DTA and non-existing conferences among others.

Others include “corruption, fraud, criminal breach of trust, unlawful enrichment and conversion of billions of Naira of the board.”

The duo are being interrogated by top operatives of the EFCC in Ibadan over the alleged crime.

A top EFCC official confirmed the incident said that some other officials of the board who were fingered in the alleged fraud are still being investigated to ascertain their levels of culpability to the alleged criminal breaches.

The arrest of the two men came a few days after the conviction of two top officials of the Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board, Gambo Lawal Tsafe and Kasimu Mohammed for fraud by Justice Fatima Murtala of the
Federal High Court Gusau.
