Why Are Ndi Igbo Silent On Nnamdi Kanu’s Continuous Detention?–Lawmaker

A lawmaker at the Ebonyi State House of Assembly (name withheld) has on Saturday, October 15 raised a fundamental question on the continual detention of the embattled Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu and the Igbos conspiracy of silence despite various court orders seeking for his unconditional release.

Recall that Kanu who was spearheading the quest for an independent nation of Biafra, was earlier granted bail by a Federal high Court sitting in Abuja, but he was also re-arrested by the SSS, which slammed a fresh charge of treasonable felony against him.

Since then, according to Ikenga Chronicles , Kalu has been held incommunicado in Kuje Maximum Prisons with viral report of his deteriorating health conditions.

Reacting to Kanu’s continual incarceration, the lawmaker who runs the blog  commonly known as Nwanyi Afikpo said: “It is unfortunate that Nnamdi Kanu is still in detention and the Igbo nation is doing nothing about it. This is a big slap to us all. And note, this is not just about Nnamdi Kanu, this is about the fact that any Igbo can be locked up by FG and nothing can be done about it.”

“I cannot imagine this happening to someone from another ethnic group. Where are the powerful Igbo leaders? If you fail to act, it could be you or any of us tomorrow.’’

However, speaking during his first presidential media chat at the presidential Villa in Abuja, President Muhamamdu Buhari had said that Kanu would not be allowed to enjoy any form of freedom due to the enormity of his offenses.

Buhari also said despite having two international passports, one for Britain and the other for Nigeria, Kanu “did not use any of them to come into the country”.

He also said the IPOB leader smuggled in equipment with which he came in to preach hate messages.

While condemning Kanu’s excesses, the renowned blogger and lawmker said: ‘’ I was never comfortable with the excessive verbal abusive and insult angle and made it known to him.”

‘’At a point; the verbal abuses his followers where applying on fellow Igbos or anyone that disagrees with their style was just too much for me to bear, no matter how tiny the disagreement, they will call you names that I cannot even say here please–unprintable names. ‘’

Adding she said: The point is this; you do not have to agree with him or the ways of some Radio Biafrans to support his release.

‘’His continuous detention is a slap to the Igbo nation. Normally when people are arrested for one agitation or another, they are released later with some kind of condition, why is NK’s own different?”

“And to any Igbo who do not like the style of Radio Biafra and feels NK deserves to be there, remember he is your blood, and remember whatever he is passing through will also happen to you if you find yourself in such a situation. His continuous detention is a mockery on us all.’’
