Who is a Woman?

  –Chinedum Uzuegbu

A group of stakeholders, fighting against Gender Based Violence were convened by Gender and Development Action(with support from the Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State,Nigeria, to find ways of eradicating Violence Against Women and Girls in the state. The meeting which held a day after the celebration of the 2016 International Women’s Day witnessed participants writing on sticker pads, their perception of who a woman is. What you see below is a collation of those definitions!

A woman is a beautiful creation of God
She is “strength”
Man’s blessing–the love of his life

A woman is a human,
Different from man, and beautifully so
She is mother,
Builder, strengthener,
The beam that holds the family

A woman is life,
She gives it and sustains it
A woman is God’s creative force
Man’s partner in the journey of life

She is an adult female,
Even so too, when still young

A woman is
My mother, sister,daughter and wife
She holds affection close to her heart.

She is home,
She is a flower
that blossoms and nutures

A woman is music
The hope of the world
And the creater of tomorrow

A woman is me, she is us, she is the world.
