“Release Of Chibok Girls Not A Swap”– Lai

Contradicting earlier reports that the 21 Chibok girls who were released by Boko Haram was a swap, the Minister of Information Lai Mohammed has spoken up.  According to him, the Chibok girls were not released as a swap for some top Boko Haram commanders, countering earlier news that a swap deal led to the release.

The release of the girls, according to Lai, came after an established confidence between the leadership of the sect and some negotiators.

‘This is not a swap deal, this was a release. They were flown to Kaduna from the location of their release’

This morning, the news broke out about the release of 21 of the girls. A source had stated that it was a swap deal facilitated by the Swiss Government and International Committee of the Red Cross. This caused some media uproar in some corners as many wondered why such privilege was given to the sect after all their evil acts.

This denial by Lai though will certainly raise more questions as to how and when the government was able to get such confidence from the deadly sect that had recently been on the rampage.

Many too are still questioning the authenticity of the release since the government claimed that Boko Haram had no controlled area anymore. How then are they able to keep the girls and comfortably arrange for the movement of 21 to a place from where they were taken by the government?
