Miyetialah to Ishaku; Resign if You Cannot Guarantee Peace And Security
— Callistus Agwaza,
The Taraba state Chairman of Miyetialah Cattle Breeders Association, Jauro Sahabi Tukur has called on the state governor Architect Darius Ishaku to resign if he cannot fulfil his primary responsibility of protecting lives and property of his subjects.
Tukur made the call yesterday in Jalingo while addressing journalists in reaction to media reports quoting the governor to have said he could not guarantee the safety of the people everywhere and at all times and so they should defend themselves.
According to Tukur, “the primary responsibility of any governor as the chief executive of his state is to ensure the protection of lives and property of the citizenry and when a government admits inability to fulfill this objective, then the honorable thing to do is to resign and make way for others who can handle governance”.
Tukur, who faulted the governor’s call for the Christians to ‘rise up and defend themselves against attacks’ said that the governor have been paying lip service to the security challenges in the state without taking appropriate actions to match his words.
” We have lost confidence in Ishaku’s government. He is only paying lip service to the crisis in the state. The fight in Taraba is communal, between Fulani and other tribes. He has never for once called on the Fulani and the other tribes to discuss and find lasting solution to the problem.”
“As a body, we have made concerted efforts to meet with the governor but he turned us down. Instead, he has created deep resentment against our people and every other tribe in the state now sees us as enemies” Tukur said.
He called on the Federal Government to intervene in the situation in the state and call the governor to order to avoid further bloodshed and unnecessary destruction.
