Al-makura Sacks Illegal Occupants Of Government Estates In Nasarawa

Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-makura has ordered all civil servants–serving and retired–currently occupying government estate to vacate within seven (7) days or risk government action.

He stated this during an inspection of the popular 200-housing units Nasarawa Estate built during the administration of governor Abdullahi Adamu (1999-2007) and allocated to state legislators, but now occupied by civil servants and retired workers of the state government.

Gov Al-makura said “even some retirees who are still using the facility after been paid their gratuity must also be prepared to vacate the estate, we want to reorganize the place for maximum utility that can add value to the development of the state

“Government will immediately start the rehabilitation of the road network within the estate as well as renovation of houses to boost housing challenges to deserving government officials. I want to assure you that we cannot continue in this manner where people take advantage of government facilities without any proper assent from the appropriate quarters, especially for this housing estate, anybody regardless of his status must leave within seven days

He further ordered for the deployment of men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) to the estate immediately to keep vigil and ensure that the evicted occupants move out only their belongings.

Al-makura lamented that gone are the days where people turn government properties to their own personal abode, and directed the head of service to ensure that the order is complied with in order to pave way for urgent renovation of the dilapidated housing estate for better use.

The governor further re-stated his commitment to ensure that Lafia, the capital city of the state is among the cleanest cities in the country and disclosed government plans to demolish all illegal and attached shops situated along the road in order to give the state a new face-lift in accordance with the current urban renewal plan that is going on the state.

“The over 60 years old garage motor park would be relocated to more befitting place where it would not hinder the free flow of traffic for more convenient for drivers and passengers” he said
